Cheese of the Month (May/June 2011)
Brie de Meaux AOC
Brie de Meaux is known as the ‘Cheese of Kings’ as it was loved by Charlemagne, Charles of Orléans and even Henry IV. It is also the ‘King of Cheeses’ having received this title on the occasion of the Viennese Congress in 1814.
In contrast to ‘normal’ brie, the origin of which is not protected, the AOC cheese Brie de Meaux, can only come from a certain area in the Ile-de-France near Paris. Here it has kept its rural tradition and its hand-crafted production. Made using raw cows’ milk and traditional rennet both the texture & flavour are truly unsurpassed!
Black Bomber
The flagship cheese from the Snowdonia Cheese Company. Hand made in the Vale of Clwyd, North Wales using pasteurised cow’s milk and vegetarian rennet. A rich and smooth, full flavoured extra mature cheddar coated in black wax.
Rosary goat log with herbs & garlic
A deliciously soft fresh goat’s milk cheese, hand made by Chris Moody on farm at The Rosary in Landford on the Hampshire & Wiltshire border. The cheese has a light & fluffy texture with a crisp, fresh flavour. Gold medal winner at the British Cheese Awards, this delightfully creamy goat’s cheese is ideal for serving on a cheese board or adding to your favourite recipes. (V)
