Ice Cream Tasting with Mendip Moments

Mendip MomentsWe only sell one make of ice cream, Mendip Moments. It's local and it's also the best. It comes in a great range of flavours and at this tasting we gave our customers a chance to taste just how good it really is.

We stock 125ml pots (£1.95) which are great to eat in the park or on the move, as well as the larger 500ml pots which people have been known to share, although not very often.

Cheese and Wine Tasting BristolArch House Deli hosted anotehr cheese and wine tasting on the evening of 18th April 2013.  David Greenman of Arch House Deli ran the event along with wine aficionado Paul of Averys Fine Wine Merchants. 

We tasted six of our favourite cheeses from the deli which we paired with six wines designed to bring out the very best in each other.  David and Paul also provided background information on each of the cheeses and wines and most importantly everyone got to try them.

Another chance for a tasting from another new company from Bath, in fact the farm is just 14 miles from the deli. The Bath Harvest Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil has just won a bronze award in the Taste of the West 2012 awards.

We love it's smooth and mild flavour which can be used for drizzling, salads, roasting, baking & stir-frying.

Castellano's - Sausage Tasting

Castellano BristolBristol's very own Vince Castellano ran a tasting of his multi-award winning sausages and charcuterie. We've started stocking Vincent’s sausages and pates in 2012 and they have become a firm favourite with our customers.

Much like owner Vincent Castellano, charcuterie was born out of Italy, but it was the French who transformed it into an art.

Vincent and his team work to turn whole, locally-sourced and free range pigs into the beautiful array of products.

Cheese and Wine Tasting BristolWe hosted this years first cheese and wine tasting on the evening of 28th February 2013.  David Greenman of Arch House Deli ran the event along with wine aficionado Frank Mason of Averys Fine Wine Merchants. 

We tasted six of our favourite cheeses from the deli which we paired with six wines designed to bring out the very best in each other.  David and Frank provided background information on each of the cheeses and wines and most importantly everyone had the chance to try them during a memorable evening.

Upton Cheyney ChilliThe Upton Cheyney Chilli Company specialise in the cultivation of chillies. The chilli sauces and chilli jams are lovingly made in small batches in the kitchen of their Upton Cheyney farm shop. We met Louise and Alex at the 2012 Bristol Good Food Awards where they also won an award for their products.

At this tasting Louise provided a tasting of 5 of their top selling products.

Mulled Wine & Mead Tasting with The Lyme Bay Winery

Mulled wine and meadWhat could be more pleasent than a spot of warming Mulled Wine and Christmas Mead tasting on an autumnal Friday afternoon?

The Mulled Wine is a delicious blend of Damson and Elderberry wine and traditional festive spices. Just heat gently in a saucepan and serve warm (with a tot of brandy!) on chilly winter evenings.Awarded Silver at the 'Taste of the West Awards' 2012.

The Christmas Meas is a rich, smooth honey Mead blended with festive spices.

Eco Wedding Fair at riverstation

We are delighted to be working with riverstation as their cheese wedding cake supplier of choice and we had a great time at their Eco Wedding Fair.

Eco Wedding Fairriverstation wanted the fair to represent the sort of weddings they love and do so well.  The suppliers all being chosen not only for having ‘Eco ethos’ but because they are the cream of the crop.  We had a stand showcasing our cheese wedding cakes.

The fair was open to all getting married here in the UK or abroad, married couples, industry folk and anyone that is curious about the coolest environmentally friendly news happening in weddings and events.

Nut Tasting with Sundowner

Sundowner NutsAround the world Sundowners are drinks and snacks enjoyed as the sun sets. A moment of calm at the end of a hectic day to pause, to enjoy the company of family and friends and to treat ourselves a little.

Jessica from Sundowner came to the deli again to run a tasting of all three flavours of Sundowner's gourmet nuts plus her new crackers. The nuts are amazingly morish and come in three mixes - Arabian, Wild West and Maharaja.

Pork Crackling Tasting

Mr Trotter was born from the shared passion of three pork scratching aficionados – Tom Parker Mr Trotter'sBowles, Matthew Fort and Rupert Ponsonby – and innovative pork scratching producer, Graham Jebb from RayGray Snacks.

Over a few pints in 2009 Tom and Matthew started ruminating about the possibility of creating a superior scratching – one that was made more of pork than salt and fat, that used British pigs rather than Danish pigs, and that didn't fizz with curious seasonings.

It looks better. It crunches better. It tastes better. It's made from prime British pork skin from the finest British pigs. It's cooked in small batches by hand and it's seasoned without a trace of MSG.

Rupert ran a tasting of Mr Trotter's British Pork Crackling in the Archway.

Tregothnan TeaEnglish tea grown in England!  Inspired by a tradition stretching back generations, Tregothnan (Cornwall) began supplying England’s first and only tea (Camellia sinensis) in 2005. 

We’ve been stocking Tregothnan teas for a while and were delighted when Duncan from Tregothnan ran a tasting to let those new to their teas try the true taste of English tea.

Truffle Oil Tasting with The Truffle Hunter

This was another chance for a great truffle oil tasting with Gillian from the Truffle Hunter.

The Cotswold based company selects the best Black and White truffles from Northern and Central Italy, and has developed absolutely stunning truffle oils and butter. 

We are also one of the first delis to stock their brand new UK truffle oil, which uses local truffles (Somerset) in local rapeseed oil (Gloucestershire).

We currently stock their vodka, jam and honey and this was our first tasting with Chris. The vodka went down a storm!

Cordial Tasting with Five Valleys Cordials

Five Valleys CordialsChris from Five Valleys Cordials ran a tasting of their lovely cordials. Five Valleys Cordials are based in the beautiful town of Stroud in Gloucestershire, England.

The Cotswold countryside is their inspiration and the Five Valleys, with their bohemian values and artisan industrial roots, is their spiritual home. These cordials strive to be great but without taking themselves too seriously.

They have a great range of flavours, David loves the Pomegranate & Rose, apparently it tastes of liquid Turkish Delight and we also stock Lemon & Mint as well as Apricot & Ginger.

Olive Oil Tasting BristolThis was another opportunity for a spot of olive oil tasting with one of our most popular suppliers Daniel James and his beautiful Oro del Desierto's Spanish olive oils.

Daniel also brought along his amazing Organic Spanish honeys. They are available in 6 varieties (all based on the flowers the bees have been taking nectar and pollen from). We love the Eucalyptus honey the best.

Clifton Cloud Event 2012: Making Links in Bristol

Clifton Cloud is an event which promotes up-and-coming Bristol companies as well as connecting established businesses with the local community.

Just like the previous event we had a great time meeting loads of new and some familiar faces at the Clifton Cloud networking event held at The Square Club, Berkeley Square.

We brought along a few of our favourite local cheeses as well as our Fig & Date Balsam (a deli favourite) and an example of one of our cheese wedding cakes.

BBQ sauce and BBQ rub tasting with California Rancher

These award winning rubs and sauces are another new addition to our range; perfect for a Bristol barbeque. They are actually a local product too, although you wouldn't guess so from the name. The sauces and rubs have been designed to match those created by ranchers from California where they season joints of Bristol Steaksmeat and grill them over an open fire.

Jon from California Rancher brought along his BBQ and some steaks and gave our customers a taste of this great range of products that we feel pep up any BBQ. The weather wasn't great but it didn't dampen our spirits.

Soft Drinks Tasting, with Lovely Drinks

Lovely_drinksVictoria ran a tasting of her scrummy drinks. Lovely Drinks is a small, award winning soft drinks company based just outside Bristol in Barrow Gurney, North Somerset. They make their drinks by hand from elderflowers, lemons, fresh ginger, locally pressed apples and other English fruits and flowers. Each drink has been made, bottled, labelled and by the two owners. 

They use some organic ingredients but quality, freshness and locality are most important. As little sugar as possible is used and they never use preservatives, concentrates or artificial flavourings. The people are lovely and so are their drinks.

Chocolate Tasting, with Feeding Your Imagination

Chocolate Tasting BristolThis was a chance for a bit of pre-Valentines chocolate tasting with Paul Da-Costa-Greaves. A chance to try some of Paul's amazing range of mood enhancing chocolates, for free.

All chocolate used by Feeding Your Imagination is both Fairtrade and Organic and supports Cocoa plantation farmers in Ghana. There are 12 flavours of functional chocolate available in the range, with inspirational names such as; BEAUTIFUL, DREAMY, SEXY, FANTASTIC, LOVELY, SEDUCTIVE, MISTRESS, SENSUAL, GORGEOUS, FRUITY, YIN & YANG.

There was also a competition to win your valentine a case of feeding your imagination organic therapeutic chocolate bars. Each bar bought on Saturday Feb 11th between 11:00 and 3pm was entered into our free chocolate draw to win a mixed case of chocolates worth over £50.

Alice from Olives Et Al kindly came along and provided a free sampling of some of our new favourite olives as well as dukkah and nuts & beetroot dressing.

Eat Cheese - The Glass Boat

Glass Boat’s popular foodie street market ‘Eat Cheese’ was back, celebrating some of the very best of the South West’s talented artisan food and drink producers. We were there for our first ever outside event, complete with some of our favourite cheeses and oils.

Welsh Back was home to local cheese producers for the day along with some trusty beer and wine suppliers offering tips for pairing drinks with cheese. Other attractions included gift ideas such as hand turned cheeseboards, live music, family games and a lip smacking Sunday roast from host restaurant Glassboat.

The Cracotti range of savoury crackers Double-baked like biscotti have been a real success in the deli. Soft Drinks Tasting, with Lovely Drinks

Lovely_drinksVictoria came in and ran a tasting of their scrummy drinks. Lovely Drinks is a small, award winning soft drinks company based just outside Bristol in Barrow Gurney, North Somerset. They make their drinks by hand from elderflowers, lemons, fresh ginger, locally pressed apples and other English fruits and flowers. Each drink has been made, bottled, labelled and by the two owners. 

They use some organic ingredients but quality, freshness and locality are most important. As little sugar as possible is used and they never use preservatives, concentrates or artificial flavourings. The people are lovely and so are their drinks.

Chocolate Tasting, with Feeding Your Imagination

This was another chance to taste some of Paul Da-Costa-Greaves' amazing range of mood enhancing chocolates at one of our free Saturday tastings.

All chocolate used by Feeding Your Imagination is both Fairtrade and Organic and supports Cocoa plantation farmers in Ghana. There are 12 flavours of functional chocolate available in the range, with inspirational names such as; BEAUTIFUL, DREAMY, SEXY, FANTASTIC, LOVELY, SEDUCTIVE, MISTRESS, SENSUAL, GORGEOUS, FRUITY, YIN & YANG.

Bristol Beer FactoryAfter several requests from customers we had to find out more about Bristol Beer Factory and once Andrew Cooper had 'persuaded me' to try 7 different beers we decided it was something we simply had to add to our growing range of products from Bristol.

Andrew give customers a chance to sample these amazing beers and to learn a little more behind what makes them so darn tasty.

PolgoonWe first came across Polgoon’s award winning winery (based in Penzance, Cornwall) when we sampled their Sparkling Elderflower which they produce for the River Cottage.  After trying more of the range we now also stock their Aval and Raspberry Aval both of which make fantastic summer drinking and recently we’ve added the Cornish Pink and Cornish Black cider to our range.

Ice Cream Tasting with Mendip Moments

Mendip MomentsWe only sell one make of ice cream, Mendip Moments. It's local and it's also the best. It comes in a great range of flavours and we' ran a free tasting to give our customers a chance to taste just how good it really is.

We stock 125ml pots (£1.95) which are great to eat in the park or on the move, as well as the larger 500ml pots (£4.95) which people have been known to share, although not very often.

The Great British Cheese Festival

Great British Cheese FestivalWe (David Greenman and Debbie Atherton) held a session of cheese and wine pairings at The Great British Cheese Festival in Cardiff on 25th/26th September. We ran a session titled "Whiter than White" in which we took three soft white cheeses (Capricorn Goat, Waterloo and Wigmore) and matched them with three great wines Casa del Valle, Orion and River Cottage Sparkling Elderflower Wine.

This time we got to try their latest wine, the Regent Rose, which went down a storm.

The hottest day of the year somehow seemed appropriate for olive oil tasting with Oro del Desierto's outstanding Spanish olive oils. It was so hot we moved the tasting to outside in the arch way and it seemed to be a real hit with the passing Cliftonites.

A Spanish olive oil needs to be really good to get selected by our French and Italian deli team over oils from their own countries, fortunately Oro del Desierto is amazing.

We had over 40 people crammed into our cafe enjoying sampling the full range of Paul's amazing chocolates. We also had a chocolate fountain on tap and pink champagne to help set the mood of chocolate indulgence.

Tea Tastings

Lahloo TeaKate Gover, the owner of Lahloo Tea, ran free tea tastings on Saturday 6th February at Arch House Deli.

We've been a long time fan of Lahloo’s teas, in fact we've been stocking them from the outset. Anyone entering the Deli recently can't miss our beautiful dedicated stand of Lahloo Teas. We have recently extended the range of teas and we now also stock the fantastic Stump teapots (the name really doesn't do then justice) that we use in our café.
